Apprentice Pillar

May 18th 2010

Finally after 13 years, the large metal canopy that has allowed the Chapel to dry out prior to essential conservation work is about to be taken away.

On Friday 21st May, the demolition crew will be arriving on site with their cranes and equipment and beginning the four or five week process of dismantling and removing the canopy.

As you can imagine, a job of this scale may involve some disruption to our daily routine.

During the next few weeks, there will be very limited access to the immediate outside of Rosslyn Chapel whilst the cranes work on shifting the metal from the roof, through the grounds and out onto the trucks to be taken away.

There will be a roofed tunnel erected to take visitors from our visitor centre into the Chapel, and a small viewing area in the grounds where you can watch the work taking place (when safe to do so)

During this time we will endeavour to provide talks to our visitors as regularly as possible, but there may be occassions when this cannot happen.

We request your patience and understanding, and hope you will enjoy witnessing a very significant moment in the conservation of the Chapel.
